09/09/09 – Nero
Well, I’ve been with this rescue group now long enough to have a voice of my own – you’ll notice that my foster mom wrote the earlier bio. I’ve also been learning a lot of new things and gone to new places. I love adventure and I’m an active boy. Thank goodness I’m finished with my heartworm treatment. I only had a mild case so I never felt bad but what a relief that I can now jog, run, and play with my human and canine friends.
This weekend I went on a road trip with my foster family and we went to a lake. I had never seen a big body of water like that and once the resident dog taught me what swimming in the Texas heat was all about I fell in love with water! The children also liked the water as much as me and I had a big job down there by the water to keep watch over them around the water. I made sure that they were safe and really never took my eyes off the humans while at the beach. They had me off leash there because it was just our family and I was so attentive to the family that they were able to trust me not to run off. I also helped the 4 year old boy with his sand castle building. We had so much fun. I was worn out every evening after all that play at the lake.
After the weekend was over, I went into a training program at Southern Star Ranch. Boy this is a nice place and now I’m going to learn a lot more new things. My foster mom says I’m a great boy and deserve a forever home of my own. After my training I’ll be ready for that new home! Please consider adopting me. Put in your application fast because I’m a great boy and probably will get snatched up fast by that perfect family.
PS – I really do not like cats that much but do well with other dogs. Maybe after more training I might be able to tolerate cats. We’re not sure about that though.

This is Nero, a 15 month old male GSD. He’s a beautiful boy and very smart. He is very responsive and attentive to his human family. He is also great with children. Nero is dominant but quickly was able to adjust to the resident dogs in his foster home. The resident dogs are large so we’re not sure about smaller dogs and cats. Nero is an active boy and will make a great running or walking partner. He will need daily activity. He loves to play fetch with balls!
Nero does well on leash and is learning to sit and down and other basic commands. He is also crate-trained.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
