Baby Jake is now starting to look like a beautiful and proud German Shepherd! He still has a very long way to go but he is on his way. Dr. Bill Campbell and his staff of Parmer Lane Pet Hospital are taking very good care of him. His demodex mange is being treated as aggressively as his little body will allow and is clearing up slowly. His beautiful black coat is coming in nicely. He still has bald patches here and there, it’s actually kinda cute! He’s now such a happy little guy that he gets to eat many times throughout the day, he was so hungry. He has gained close to 6 pounds in about three weeks and is starting to grow into his huge paws! He’s ALL puppy, monkey, devil and angel in one precious package! He already knows how to “sit”, we are working on “platz” (German for down) and he walks and heals very nicely. He is now sleeping through the night without crying and wakes us up with a little bark if he needs to potty. No accidents in the house yet! “Good boy!!!!!!”
They say children spring back quickly from trauma; Baby Jake is proof positive of this. Jake’s “loving family” left him at a high-kill shelter after allowing him to contract a severe and uncompromising form of mange. This little guy has lived a lifetime in his four months, but we are privileged to have him in our program, where he is now getting tender loving care in his foster home. Although very sick, he is a typical puppy: sweet, kissy, loving – and forgiving.
Hardly recognizable at this point as a German Shepherd, we are very hopeful that Jake will blossom into a beautiful example of his breed. But he has a long road ahead. Systemic demodex mange will require him to endure a series of antibiotics, medicated dips and skin scrapings over the next few months to help his tender skin heal. His prognosis is good, but his treatment will cost upwards of $1,000. If you would like to contribute to Jake’s treatment, please click on the button below and make a credit card donation.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog.
