Kujo is a neutered male black and tan german shepherd that is about 4 years old. He is very sweet and is extremely loyal and eager to please. He would make a great pet in almost any home that can accommodate his health condition. Kujo has megaesophagus and needs to sit in a chair after eating so that he can keep from regurgitating his food. Kujo is great with other dogs and good with cats; he is housebroken but not crate trained; he is heartworm negative and up to date on vaccines as well as microchipped. He is a wonderful dog that needs just a little special care.

Kujo came to me while I was working in the SPCA of dallas when he was 4 months old...he was sick and the SPCA will not treat under 6 months of age so my coworkers and I lied about his age so that he could be treated. I fell in love with him immediately and was determined to take him home. Once he was treated he had to be neutered before they would allow me to adopt him; shortly after that he fell ill again. He wouldn't eat and radiographs showed he had pneumonia. I had to hand feed him and nurse him back to health. I took him home and he recovered.

Kujo is an amazing dog and fit in perfectly with the family. He loves other dogs and my cats. He is the most loyal dog I've ever encountered. He is the typical eager to please german shepherd. About a year after I left the SPCA and had been working in the animal hospital I work in currently I noticed Kujo vomiting one day. Since I had given him a rib bone the day before, I took him into work to radiograph. Sadly the radiographs diagnosed him with megaesophagus. I was devastated but determined to do everything I could for him. We did extensive testing including an abdominal ultrasound. The tests showed that it was idiopathic and wouldn't ever fully resolve. My father made Kujo a chair and I began him on a feeding regimen of 3-4 small meals a day of blended canned food and he sat in his chair for 30 minutes afterward. Kujo did extremely well on this and even gained some weight. Unfortunately my diabetic father has had some kidney issues and I am now having to take care of him and move in with him in his apartment. As I already work 2 jobs I feel I cannot properly take care of Kujo and my father. He has lost weight again because I can only feed him once a day now. He deserves so much better and I want to find him a home where he won't be mistreated. He is a wonderful dog. And incredibly beautiful.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' direct experiences with the dog. The dog's age is an estimate, and statements about the state of health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, is estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different.
