1-13-12 Update

Andrei is a great dog, and is very well behaved especially given his age of only 1.5yrs. He has been on some long hikes, where he is fantastic on the trail (stays close, great recall), and even loves to take a swim in the creek! He's also a good jogging partner. He's got the doggy door completely figured out and has not had a single accident in his foster home.

10/23

Andrei is a big sweet boy! His coat is beautiful and very soft. He is very smart, too. When you talk to him, he will turn his head to the side a little and wag his tail. He is housbroken and crate trained. We have figured out that Andrei already knows these words/commands (and probably more) so far: crate, sit, down, shake, no, leave it, and go outside. He is very motivated by treats and learns how to earn them very quickly. He's working on using the dog door and has already learned where he is allowed to have a nap and where he's not. Most of the time he likes to lay on the cool tiles within view of his foster family. His foster dad works from home and Andrei loves to lay on the dog bed in the office and look out the window at the people walking by. Andrei also loves to go for walks and does well on a leash. He has not shown any aggression towards other dogs out on walks that have barked and lunged at him, instead his tail keeps wagging and he turns his head to the side in a "what is your problem?" manner - very cute, too! So far he has, for the most part, ignored the cat and gets along really well with the resident 11yr old female dog, showing no food aggression or dominant behavior. For a young dog he is pretty calm indoors, especially after a nice walk.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
