Wow, what a lovely companion Angel is! Angel has shown herself to be adaptable to a new home and a new group of dogs, and has fit in at two different foster homes. She has learned the "rules of the house", waits for her turn to go outside and to eat, and gives the other dogs space when it's their turn to be petted. She knows how to use a pet door, or will let you know when she is ready to go outside.

Walks - Angel is happy, loves to go for walks and is able to go up to two miles several times a week, and has been going on about a half mile twice a day otherwise. It is important for her to have regular walks, as she tends to be overweight without them.

Toys - She also loves to have a toy, and she can be protective of a toy if other dogs seem to want to take it, or if a person seems to want to "steal" it. She loves playing "keep away" and wants you to chase her around for the toy. She's quite good at catching too!

Crate - Angel crates well, but waits for you to toss a treat in for her as her cue to go, although she is very housetrained, and has had no accidents or chewed anything while left uncrated.

Barking - She is not a regular barker, but she certainly alert-barks when there is a noise outside that she isn't used to, so we know in advance when someone is approaching the house.

Habits - Most of all, Angel loves to be loved. She adores attention, petting, loves to be combed and brushed (and vacuumed!), and loves it when someone talks to her. She sits near her people, follows them around, wants to see everything that's going on. She really likes to "keep an eye" on everyone, and moves from room to room to look in on everyone.

Temperament - She is very intelligent. Angel watches and keys in on body language, and learns very quickly what her person wants her to do. She is very human focused and always wants pats and loving, and she likes to give kisses. She could become alpha, if her owner had a multi-dog household and was lax about pack dynamics. She likes all the attention for herself, and we can foresee that she would get pushy about attention, and with other dogs, if she was allowed. We don’t allow her to be the alpha, and so long as she understands the rules, she is happy to comply. She understands No, and Sit, although she has a little trouble with Stay. She likes to sleep wherever it is cool, like the tile or hardwoods, even when a bed is available, but also likes her big, soft warm bed now that it is cooler.

Physical attributes - Her thick, luxurious, pure white coat is absolutely gorgeous. No yellow in this coat, she is white all over! She took the best from both her heritages, the long lovely eyelashes and facial hairs and size of the Irish Wolfhound, and the loyalty and intelligence of the GSD.

Veterinary status - Angel is up to date on all of her veterinary needs, she has been vaccinated, spayed, heartworm treated, and is current on heartworm preventative and flea medications.

Indoor Only - She is NOT an outdoor girl, preferring and needing the benefit of air conditioning.

Cats - We don’t know about cats, because we don’t have any, but we suspect that Angel could be trained to ignore cats, as she is most interested in people. She gets along fine with a dog who is half her size/weight.

Quirks - She has not jump-greeted anyone while we’ve had her, but she will occasionally yelp if her fur is pulled or someone touches her paws. She doesn’t like her paws being touched, and gets nervous when her belly or tail are touched. She likes gentle brushing, and once she got over the fear of the noise of the vacuum, she decided it was great to be vacuumed. So, we use the hose to vacuum her all over, even her tail and belly. She seems to really enjoy it, and will follow us around hoping for more! She likes to go for rides, although she needs a little help getting into the car.

Adoption - Angel can be adopted only by an applicant who is experienced with German Shepherds or other large-breed dogs. Angel is not a good match for a home with children, or a home with an inexperienced adult. Angel is an intelligent, strong-minded, human-focused dog, and she needs to be an a home with experienced leadership. She is a very sweet girl, just wants to adore someone. She has a lot of love to give the right owner.

Won’t you give Angel a second chance to adore someone special, like you? What a sweetie, this girl is going to be a great, loyal, affectionate, companion for some lucky adopter!

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
