Update 1/21
He is doing well with foster family's kids. He loves to play with toys, retrieve tennis ball. If you act as if you are busy, he will entice you into playing with him by dropping the toy next to you :-). He is very content and does not gobble food. Given his large frame, he does not steal from table either. We left him outside the crate yesterday night and he did fine . Though last night was the first time ( out of the two nights he has been with us thus far) that he was outside the crate, I have a feeling that he will do fine on the nights to come.
He is confident and a very people person errr... dog :-) He does pay attention to little dogs and their bark.
Update 10/1
Apollo is like a new dog now that his heartworm treatments are over! He is healthy and ready for a new home. He has his foster family pretty much wrapped around his little finger with his sweet face and one floppy ear. His playful puppy side is back, and he shows a great zest for life like only a 1.5 year old GSD can. He loves romping around the yard with other dogs, has a keen curiosity, and would be a star at obedience classes. He has an adorable habit of having very active dreams, so if you stay quiet for a bit, you can see him chasing rabbits in his sleep. Apollo’s gorgeous long coat is coming back as well. Apollo is a total charmer who would love to get to know you!
8/21
Are you looking for a new companion who loves to play with you and your dog? Apollo has the sweetest bronze eyes and gorgeous long fur, and he will be ready for adoption in early October. He is looking for a loving home where he can grow up as a beloved family member, hopefully with some doggy brothers or sisters. Apollo loves playing fetch, going for walks, and lounging around the house. He grew up with a chihuahua and is currently living with a small terrier. The dogs wrestle and play chase around the yard for hours every day.
He loves beating the heat by playing in the sprinkler and sometimes finds his way into the bathtub for a nap on the cool porcelain. He's currently got a summer haircut but you can see from his bushy tail that his coat will be beautiful when it grows out. He weighs 70 pounds and we are hoping with a steady diet of treats and kisses he will put on a few pounds. He's already learning that doing tricks earns him some pretty sweet snacks! Unfortunately Apollo has had a rough start in life and he is heartworm positive and a little underweight. He will be undergoing treatment for the heartworms in September. As soon as his treatment is complete, he will be ready to go to his new home. He is housetrained and crate trained. Apollo is a great dog and he would love to get to know you!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
