Cain was surrender by his owner of 9 years after the owner was charged with animal cruelty in Travis County. He is in the early stages of heartworm and is being treated with the slow kill method. He will eyes drops for the rest of his life for an eye condition called Pannus. But other than that he is in great health and still has an active zest for life! (His brother Duke received the brunt of the neglect.) He is in obedience training right now and doing very well. Cain's trainer tells us that Cain is just a quiet, gentle guy. His mannerisms have a calming affect on otherwise hyper dogs that may be boarded next to him. He is very sweet and lovable and would be especially good for an older person, a family that may not want a younger, more active dog, or a family with children. He loves to be around people and be loved on, petted and scratched. He loves to investigate his surroundings and loves to go to the park to play ball. He is fine with other dogs, kids, etc. Don’t know about cats though.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
