Hello Everyone! Well, as you can see, Lola grew her hair back! Isn't it beautiful?! She is doing very well and has become more active, playing with the other dogs and generally being happier (which I didn't know was possible). She now weighs a healthy 81 Lbs, a far cry from the 123 Lbs she was when she was rescued. If I have not mentioned it before, she is Heart worm negative and healthy as can be. She gets thyroid medication and Glucosamine at dinner time to make sure she can stay as healthy as possible. She has a healthy appetite at meal time but is not at all food aggressive. Lola has met a few potential adopters, but has not yet found her right match. She is a very loyal and loving dog. Whenever I get home from work she follows me around the house, and if I ask her to 'go lay down' she lays down at my feet and sets her head on my shoes, waiting to see where we are going next.

She loves people, adults and children alike, and only wants to spend time with her family. This means she loves to go for walks, but she also loves to lay by your feet while you type on the computer or watch TV. Lola does alarm bark when people knock on the door, but when they come inside she is not aggressive at all. I have had Lola around cats, small dogs, and children. The only issue I have ever had was that she didn't realize her size, and bumped a small child with her rear, so she may not be good for children who are just learning to walk. She is a very gentle and sweet girl, but she does get excited in public and on car rides. When she gets excited she whines and 'talks.' She will definitely let you know how she feels about things. Wouldn't you like to give a sweet and gentle girl with stunning looks and a great personality the forever home she dreams of? Come Meet Lola!!

Lola is doing very well. When she was picked up from the animal shelter she weighted a hefty 123 Lbs. It was discovered that she had a Thyroid issue and she now gets a pill in her food morning and night. She is now a trim 90 Lbs after pairing her thyroid medicine with a diet dog food. She is a very sweet girl. She is a little shy with new places until she learns what is expected of her. She loves to be in the same room as her humans, but you will have to 'give her permission' or she won't come in the room. She listens very well to commands and loves to please her human. She also loves to get treats and be told she is a good girl. Lola loves to sleep in her crate, sometimes she will just lay in there to take naps during the day too. Her hair is cut right now because she had a bout of pneumonia and developed sores on her knees and elbows, so the vet shaved her to be able to see and care for her better. She is doing very well now, she still has one elbow that still has a cut but other than that she is happy and healthy. She loves playing with other dogs. I have two large dogs, but her foster at the vet's office also had two puppies that Lola got along with just fine as well. She also gets along great with kids, cats, and pretty much every other living creature.

Lovely Lola is a big girl, more to love! What a sweet girl she is, too! If you are looking for a calm and sweet lady she may be just the girl for you! Lola has started a weight management program and should be to her normal weight soon. She would love someone to take her on walks to help her regain her gorgeous shape again. Won't you help her?

We will update as we learn more about her.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
