6/8/12 Update
Sweet Freya has been weaned from all of her pups, is now spayed, and ready to find her forever home! What a good mother she was, and is now ready to transfer all that love and affection to her new human family. Won't you give this wonderful girl a new lease on life? She is regaining her lovely shape back and is eager to please and just waiting for the right home. She will be getting some training too!
5/12/12 Update
Freya had her puppies April 4th. There are 10 puppies in total and she has been a great mother. Over the time we have had Freya we have learned a lot more about her. Freya LOVES attention. Even while caring for her puppies, she liked to know where the humans were and what we were doing. She is a very loving and caring dog. We have begun allowing her free in the house since the puppies are old enough to be without her for periods of time (she and the puppies were kept contained in the kitchen). She has not chewed anything, and loves to play with stuffed toys. She is very loving and energetic towards the other dogs in the house, especially our male. She is well house trained. The only times she has had accidents is when her stomach was upset. She is a very sweet girl and wants nothing more than to be with her humans and be loved. She would be great for an active family who will take her on walks and play with her in the yard, and generally involve her in their activities. She will be available when the puppies are 8 weeks (May 30th!) and she is neutered. She is a great mom, and it is obvious that this is not her first litter, but she is definitely ready to retire from motherhood after this litter. Won't you give this tired mom the retirement and love she deserves? Come meet Freya!
4/21/12
Meet Freya! We are guessing that this sweet girl is around 2 years old. Freya was found as a stray late in her pregnancy, so we are not sure what the father is, but she will be giving birth very soon. Due to the pregnancy, Freya will not be available for adoption until June or July, after the puppies are weaned and she has received her vaccines. She has not been vaccinated yet for the safety of her puppies. After her pregnancy, she will probably weigh about 50-55 Lbs. Freya seems to be house broken and has only had one accident in her foster home, on her first night here.
Freya is very human centered. She always wants to be near her humans and loves attention. She is very energetic and is always ready to give kisses. She seems to do well with other dogs, but she has not been allowed play freely with other dogs, to prevent injury to her or the puppies. She is learning her manners and some commands. She is a very smart and eager girl. She is very food driven, but that may be due to her pregnancy. Get your applications in now for Freya or her puppies. This sweet girl is worth waiting for! We will keep you updated as we get to know this sweet girl and bring her puppies into the world.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
