2/2/13 Update

Well, our girl Gigi does not seem to like small dogs. She would do best as an only dog, or maybe with a large male. Fine with children 10 or older.

12/1/12 Update

We have learned that Gigi crates very well. A little piece of deli meat works every time and I have crated her numerous times . Only drawback is that when you open the crate when you come back , she will greet with you as if she is meeting you after 10 years!

She is a true velcro/shadow dog in every sense of the words. She wants to be with her human so much so that she forgets that she need to go about with her daily business. That said, we have never had any accidents. She is so quiet that you will not know there is a dog at home. She is an extremely patient girl.

10/16/12 Update

Gigi has been with us for a week now as foster girl. Walks nicely on leash , as long as she does not see another dog . If she doe , she barks at him/her. She would be great as a single dog child. Loves to go for car rides. She jumps in and out of car nicely . She is very alert.

I put her in the crate twice yesterday and she did ok . She is very house broken, does not beg and does not jump on the couch either . She has bonded with me, so much so that, she will leave her food if she senses that I am moving away from the kitchen . That said, she relaxes her rule and goes with any family member who takes her for a walk . :-)

She is not into treats or toys, just wants to be with her human. She is good with visitors to the house too. No food agression either. She does not get hyper either if she misses a walk. I think she would be great for a family with young kids and a stay-at-home parent and who does not have a dog.

8/7/12

Gigi is a female German Shepherd Dog who is 5 years old. She was turned into the city shelter by her family. Gigi is very friendly with humans and is good with other dogs. However, she will tell younger rowdy dogs to leave her alone if she is not interested in play. She does seem to be an alpha type dog on first impression but please check back on her bio as we gather more information.

She had heartworms when her previous owners turned her in so we have treated her for heartworms and she had no complications from this. She is now spayed and healthy and active. We have not tested her with cats.

NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.

The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
