Elke is an absolute sweetheart! She loves to get pets and hugs and will burrow and cuddle into you in return. She has a great disposition and is a very calm dog for her age. She is comfortable with both men and women, familiar and new. She barks rarely and only to alert. She absolutely loves her foster sister - they are the same age and similar body build and she plays very well with her. She will watch her sister and do exactly what she does. They take turns chasing each other around the yard and are learning some great moves from each other. She has not had issues with resource guarding or dominance with her foster sister. She has been great about staying in the yard even though the fence between ours and our neighbors has been down. She is learning to wait at the door and in her crate until she is released and is doing very well with that. She will go into her crate with little trouble, especially if a treat is involved, and has had zero problems in there, even for hours at a time. She is housetrained and has not chewed on anything in the house except for toys. Elke has been curious but gentle with her kitty foster sister. She is very eager to please - she loves all treats and kongs but most of all loves being told she's a good girl and getting pets. She is easy to correct - a simple uh-uh will stop her in her tracks. We are going to start working on clicker training and doing some simple basic commands - she is a quick learner.
Elke has been spayed and recovered wonderfully. Now she's really ready for her forever home. We have been working on her chewing issues. She now understands what is acceptable -- kong, nylabone -- and what is not. Elke does not get along with small dogs. She is fine with children. We go for walks in the park and have lots of fun. She is a wonderful dog who loves people.
Elke is a sweet little girl, looking for her forever home. She loves her human and stays close. She likes to chew. She’s learning that nylabones and other ‘doggie’ friendly items are chew toys. She has not been trained, but I am attempting to teach her some basic commands. She does well in a crate and in the house. She’s a bit stand-offish with other dogs at first, but is friendly after meeting.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
