Foster Application

It is IMPORTANT that you have read through this page BEFORE you apply

Most dogs need a minimal transitional period of several weeks.  Plan for the first couple weeks to be challenging.  Adding a new dog to the family upsets the balance of your current “pack” no matter how good the match is.  Your resident dogs will be stressed, your new dog will be stressed and you may be stressed as a result.

IMPORTANT:  Use the TAB key, or your MOUSE to move through the application.  DO NOT use the "enter key" or your application will be submitted and may be incomplete.

Thank you!  We look forward to receiving your application!

The Home Visit

A home visit will be done after vet reference approval. Please note that ALL FAMILY MEMBERS must be present during the home visit and supportive of the idea of fostering.

If you live outside of the Austin or Houston area, we may not be able to approve your application if we are unable to arrange for a volunteer to do your home visit.

What day of the week is best for you?

What time is best for you?

Notices:

  • Please allow 1-2 weeks for your application to be completed.  It can take more depending on how busy our volunteers are.  Please be patient.

  • Foster Commitment.  Please be sure you are prepared to foster before doing so.  AGSDR does not have a group of empty foster homes waiting to take in other foster dogs if a foster home changes it's mind.  We save a dog from shelter and bring a dog into rescue based on your commitment to provide it a home until it is adopted.

    • We cannot simply "come get a dog" from you at any point it time.  It may take us days or even weeks to find another foster home for your foster dog should you decide you can't foster it.  Be prepared to keep it separated from your other dogs, children, etc., as needed.

    • We often do not know ahead of time if the dog gets along with children, pets, etc.  We do our best to assess this information and place dogs in the appropriate foster home, but please be prepared to keep the foster dog separated from your personal dogs and NEVER allow your foster dog to be alone with your children.

    • For more info about fostering, please read here.
