Sandy is a very sweet, petite pup with a tremendously wonderful temperament who wants nothing more than love, pets, and play time! She's a "velcro dog" that will help you with all of your daily activities. Overall, her disposition is to be submissive - she is not an alpha female. She loves stuffies, playing fetch and passing time by chewing on a tasty treat or antler. Sandy is crate trained; easily walks in when asked and does well while her humans are at work. Once she has had time to adjust to a new environment, Sandy can also be trusted to free roam, and she likes to sleep with her humans if allowed or otherwise on a comfy dog bed. She sleeps through the night without interruption. Sandy will do best in a home without cats.
Sandy is highly human friendly and will thrive and adapt to being the only dog or in a home with another pup, or multiple pups with similar energy that like to play tug of war or "keep away" with all of the toys. She doesn't show toy or food aggression with other dogs. Sandy will also let her humans enjoy a meal without constant begging. She is completely house trained and will let you know that she has to go out by standing at the door, alternatively, she is great with a doggy door and doesn't try to jump our fence. She takes cues really well and knows no, back, drop it, and sit. She will likely be trustworthy off-leash once she has had time to bond with her human(s). She's a smart cookie who learns quickly with treats for encouragement.
She loves car rides and sticking her head out the window as you drive around. Sandy is a fantastic hiking/walking partner and walks extremely well on a loose leash! She is a bit fearful and nervous in new situations and because of that fear has shown some leash reactivity toward other dogs while on walks. Her foster believes that with consistent positive experiences, leadership from her human and gained confidence, that fear based response will diminish. Sandy learns extremely fast and there is no doubt that just patience and consistency will help her, but professional training will likely get her there in no time! Off-leash she is great with other dogs - big or small.
She's happy going with you on adventures, errands or just being by your side with a few squeaky stuffies to exercise her energy. Several small children have asked to pet her while on walks around town and she has been very gentle and sweet with all of them. She would be a fantastic young dog for a small child to grow up with and equally as great as a companion for a single person or family without kids. Ask to meet Sandy and prepare yourself for a whole lotta love and joy from this girl!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
