Meet Jerry!
Eight years old, going on three! Jerry was surrendered when his family no longer had time for him, but he soldiers on like a very good boy. He’s alert, loyal, and always on duty, quick to guard the fence or bravely intercept a loud vacuum, like a true household hero.
Jerry loves being close, often placing his head on your belly while claiming your pillow as his own. He wants to be near his person and soak up attention. He has solid crate manners, which helps keep a steady routine.
He previously lived with young children and did well in that environment. That said, Jerry is very enthusiastic around food. He’s extremely food motivated and will grab treats quickly, even right from your hand. Because of this, any home with kids will need to be thoughtful about boundaries and supervision during feeding or snack time.
He gets along well with other dogs day to day, especially when things are calm. Around food, though, that same enthusiasm shows up, so structure really helps him succeed.
Jerry has a quirky, endearing trait. When he’s excited or a little anxious, he spins in tight, clockwise circles, like he’s winding himself up. It’s his signature move and part of his charm.
Like many shepherds, he’s smart, eager to please, and a little headstrong. With structure and patience, that drive can really shine.
He’s currently on Carprofen to support his hips, and he’s doing well.
At eight, Jerry isn’t slowing down, he’s just ready for his next chapter. He still wants a job, a person to look after, and a home where he can stay busy, stay close, and build a bond all over again.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
